Individual Therapy in Colorado, Tennessee & Florida

One person. One space. One hour that's entirely yours.

Something brought you here today. Maybe it's been building for a while, or maybe today just felt different. Either way, you don't need the right words yet, and you don't need to have it all figured out. You just need a place to start.

What is individual therapy?

At its core, individual therapy is a dedicated, confidential partnership between you and me, a licensed therapist. Unlike formats that involve shared dynamics, this space belongs entirely to you. It offers a rare opportunity to step away from the expectations of daily life and focus solely on your own inner world: your thoughts, patterns, emotions, and personal aspirations.

People arrive at therapy from all different places. Some come in with a clear, specific goal, while others simply know that something feels heavy or off, even if they can't quite name it yet. Wherever you are starting, that's the right place. The work isn't about receiving a clinical label or following a rigid checklist; it is a collaborative process designed to help you look beneath the surface, untangle complex feelings, and build a life that feels authentic and aligned with who you are.

Why individual therapy?

Individual therapy isn't the only path to feeling better, but it's often the most direct one, especially when what you're working through is deeply personal. Even if your struggles involve your relationships, family dynamics, or external stressors, having a dedicated space entirely for yourself allows you to focus on your own growth, reactions, and healing without needing to navigate anyone else's perspective in the room.

You do not have to join a group or bring a partner to make meaningful progress; one-on-one work provides a focused, confidential environment tailored exclusively to your needs. To help you see how this format compares to other options, here is a quick look at how individual therapy stacks up against group therapy and couples counseling.

Personal Growth

For when you're not in crisis, just ready for more out of your life.

If nothing above feels like an exact fit, that's alright. A lot of what brings people to therapy doesn't come with a tidy label, and we can figure out what you actually need together.

The Benefits

  • A clearer relationship with your own mind. Learning to notice your thoughts and feelings without being swept away by them.

  • Fewer repeating patterns. Understanding why certain situations or relationships keep triggering the same reaction, so you can respond differently.

  • A steadier nervous system. Learning to recognize and release stress in your body, not just talk about it.

  • More honest self-understanding. A space where you don't have to perform or manage anyone else's feelings but your own.

  • Real, practical change. Concrete tools and practices you can actually use in the 167 hours between sessions, not just insight for its own sake.

Where to Expect

  • Format: 100 percent telehealth, so you can meet from anywhere in Colorado, Tennessee, or Florida

  • Session length: 50 minutes

  • Getting started: A free 15-minute consultation, so we can both get a feel for whether this is a good fit before you commit to anything

  •

  • Approach: Integrative, drawing from somatic work, mindfulness, CBT, IFS, and attachment-focused therapy depending on what you need

Individual Therapy FAQ

For Adults in Colorado, Tennessee, and Florida

What is individual therapy, and how is it different from couples or family therapy?

Individual therapy is one-on-one counseling between you and a therapist, focused entirely on your own thoughts, feelings, and goals. Unlike couples or family therapy, there's no need to coordinate anyone else's schedule or manage anyone else's perspective in the room. It's a space that's completely yours.

How do I know if I need therapy, or if I should just push through on my own?

If something has been affecting your mood, relationships, sleep, or daily functioning for more than a few weeks, that's usually a good sign therapy could help. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from individual therapy. Many people start simply because they're ready for a change, even without a specific problem to point to.

What actually happens in an individual therapy session?

Sessions typically involve talking through what's been happening in your life, identifying patterns, and working through whatever is coming up for you that week, guided by your specific goals and my clinical training. Depending on what you need, we might explore your thoughts, notice what's happening in your body, or look at how past relationships are shaping your present ones.

How long does individual therapy usually take to see results?

Many people notice some initial relief within the first few sessions, simply from having a consistent space to process what's going on. Deeper, lasting change usually unfolds over several months, though the exact timeline depends on your goals and what you're working through. We'll check in regularly about how things are feeling and adjust as needed.

Is online individual therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

For most concerns, online individual therapy offers the same depth of support as in-person sessions, with the added benefit of meeting from a space where you already feel comfortable. Many clients find it easier to open up from home than they expected to.
